Setting Intentions


As you may already know, I’m embarking on a year-long course to become a health coach.

In lieu of a post today, I thought I’d share with you my first assignment from my health coaching program, since it involves all of you. Our task was to set an intention for this program in writing, and then think of several words to help guide that intention. (It’s a little “woo-woo,” but it’s a great exercise, because it forced me to take my abstract “hopes and dreams” and put them on a piece of paper.)

This exercise involves you, because you are all going to be a part of this journey–just as you have been a part of my journey for the last year as I figured out how to make this “recovery” thing an every day reality.

So here is my intention for this year:

As a former anorectic who still struggles with food, fitness, and the fallout of addiction, my goal is to use this health coaching certification to help as many men and women as possible (including myself) avoid or break free from the disordered mindset that is taking over the world in the form of poor nutrition, bad science, and fitspiration.

My intention is, by the end of the year, to become a thought leader in the world of fitness, nutrition, and disordered eating, as well as to run a thriving health coaching practice. If possible, I would like to finally become a personal trainer or yoga instructor, or else somehow work yoga and MovNat/primal movement into my coaching practice.

Undiet, Unfitness, Hunger, Undoing

Eating, Moving, Finding, Being

Self-discovery, Patience, Quiet, Peace, Namaste, Oneness, Understanding, Compassion, Success, Selflessness, Savasana, Seeing, Company, Touch, Toughness, Vulnerability, Understanding, Love, Sister

I think that writing down and sharing your intentions for any goal is an incredibly powerful way to make your vision clear and then hold yourself accountable for the follow-through.

  1. My intention (and its more than that… I need a stronger word than intention) is to publish at least 3 health articles by the end of the year, as part of expanding my freelance writing world beyond that of food/profiles/restaurants.
